From One to Another

Artist Residency 2021 and 2022

Walking the South West Coastal Path

I was artist in residence at Anchor Studio, Newlyn in October 2021 and December 2022. The first residency was supported by Visual Arts Scotland, The Borlase Smart John Wells Trust and Wilhelmina Barns-Graham Trust. The following year I went back again, feeling a strong pull to continue walking and working there.

I divided my time between sketching in Anchor studio, which overlooks Newlyn harbour and walking sections of the SW coastal path. I’ve now walked from the Hayle Estuary to Lizard Point over the course of the two month-long residencies. These walks and drawings continue to have a strong influence on my practice, as ways to remember, observe, experience and imagine the dynamic flow of landscape, seascape and social history in these very particular places, layered with memories from elsewhere and fictional influences.
