Artist in Residence : Printmaking Department

Quarterfall. hand coloured etching, 53cm (W) x 45cm (H), 2026

In 2024 I was artist in residence in the University of Alberta’s printmaking department. I spent September and October in the Fine Arts Building (FAB) and my most recent works are inspired by my time there - in particular the interior of the building - a 1970s brutalist brick and concrete construction. The North Saskatchewan River runs past the University from its source - the Saskatchewan Glacier, in the Rocky Mountains, where I also spent time exploring/following the river system through its varied landscapes. Features within the building’s interior, such as staircases, wall textures and ceiling structures are remembered as intertwined with the river system, including the leafy river valley, waterfalls, and the receding glacier.
